University Students Having Visas Revoked
Multiple Maryland universities are seeing student visas revoked. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement took away visas from four graduate students at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, as well as from dozens of Johns Hopkins University graduate students — all without prior notification or explanation from the federal government. The same occurrences regarding student visas are happening nationwide.
Drones Approved for Emergency Workers in Two Pennsylvania Counties
Two nearby Pennsylvania counties are going to be using drones to help emergency workers. Somerset County is the latest county looking to implement a drone program to support local first responders. Last year, Cambria County announced that it was working to establish a drone deployment and testing facility at the Johnstown Airport to help deliver medical supplies to responders and people who can't get them by foot.
Wild Turkey Season
Maryland’s statewide spring wild turkey season opens this month, beginning with the Junior Turkey Hunt on April 12. The regular spring turkey season opens for all hunters on April 18 and runs through May 23. The Maryland Department of Natural Resources anticipates that hunters should have ample opportunity due to recent increases in turkey numbers in many areas.
BENCH WARRANTS SERVED
On Tuesday, April 8, 2025, the Cumberland Police Department served a bench warrant on Jacob Baker. The warrant was issued as the result of Baker failing to appear for court on an original charge of Theft less than $100. Baker was arrested and transported to Central Booking. He was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and released on his personal recognizance. Frostburg State University’s Appalachian Service Through Action Resources AmeriCorps program is holding a Book and Resource Giveaway. OPC Wants Changes To EV Proposals
Electric utility proposals totaling more than $230 million to support electric vehicle growth would burden utility customers, the Office of People’s Counsel told the Maryland Public Service Commission in comments filed late last week. The OPC recommended the Commission should reject or limit many of the costs that the utilities propose, OPC recommended. OPC is asking that companies be directed to reduce proposed administrative costs and deny most proposed incentives for customer-owned equipment.
Tornado Drill Today
As part of Maryland Severe Storms Awareness Week, Maryland’s Department of Emergency Management will be conducting a tornado drill. Residents with NOAA weather radios may receive a message preceded by an Emergency Alert system code. Schools, businesses, and families can practice what to do when a tornado warning is issued including finding safe shelter, staying away from windows, and watching for flying debris.
Governor Signs Three Bills After Sine Die
Governor Moore wasted no time post-General Assembly to begin signing legislation passed during the session. On Tuesday, the governor signed three bills to strengthen the state’s workforce. City Evaluating How, When To Close Downtown Streets

Governor Encourages Passage of MicroGrids Bill
A West Virginia bill regarding microgrids passed the house and is now in the senate. The bill targets Data Center placement in the Mountain State, an investment wherein Governor Patrick Morrisey says they have the energy resources ready to sustain the centers… “We want to be the state where it is easiest to operate these data centers in. We want to take advantage of the unlimited energy resources that we have. And yes, that is gas, but guys, that is also coal. And there is a big opportunity for gas, for coal, to utilize our water resources.”
