A Bowie-native is coming to Baltimore to play for the Ravens in a trade announced Thursday. Tractor Trailer Brake Fire Overnite on Interstate 68

Allegany County Emergency Services reported a tractor trailer break fire just before midnight Wednesday on Interstate 68 East prior to the Winchester Road. on ramp. One lane of traffic was closed for about a half hour as the scene was cleared.

Fire Damages Decatur Street Home

Firefighters battled a two-alarm house fire at 7 Decatur St. in Cumberland late Wedenesday evening  First-arriving Cumberland firefighters reported smoke coming from the attic of the dwelling. Reports from the scene indicated all of the occupants escaped the property. Volunteer firefighters from several companies in Allegany and Mineral counties are assisted city firefighters. Units were dispatched at about 10:40 p.m.   Cumberland Police and the Allegany County Fire Police assisted with traffic control. The fire fire was reported to be under control at approximately 12:30AM Thursday.

BOE Candidates Debate Coronavirus Protocols During WCBC Forum

The six candidates for the Allegany County Board of Education participated in a candidate forum Wednesday night on WCBC Radio.  Three seats will be filled in the November 3 general election.  One topic of discussion was the position of superintendent of schools.  Jeff Blank is now in his second year with the title of interim superintendent.  Board president Tammy Fraley said Blank and his staff are not adequately communicating with the public regarding COVID-19 plans and returning to the classroom….     Challenger Linda Widmyer says there is no need for a national search for a new superintendent next spring……

Morriss Discusses Rolling Mill Project Developments with WCBC

Though he admits he may be sounding like a broken record, Cumberland Mayor Ray Morriss says progress is continuing on a number of long-term projects in the city, including the Rolling Mill commercial development and the West Side bridges.  Appearing on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show”  Wednesday, the mayor provided project updates. Often referred to as the Rolling Mill project, the 3.5-acre tract is situated off Exit 43D of eastbound Interstate 68. Located between Maryland Avenue and Park Street and Emily and Williams streets, the site was selected five years ago as the future location of a plaza that would contain a hotel, restaurants and shops. Franchot Warns of 30,000 Pandemic-Related Small Business Closures in MD by 2021

Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot says the Board of Public Works needs to act immediately on a $500 million rescue fund for small businesses. WBAP reports Franchot said the pandemic has devastated small businesses across the Old Line State.  Speaking at the beginning of Wednesday's Board of Public Works meeting, Franchot said the state faces an emergency, noting that as many as 30,000 small businesses could close by the end of the year.  Franchot says there is money in the state's reserve from the last budget year that totals $585 million to pay for the program.  He also says the state can…

Today is the last day to request a mail-in ballot in Maryland

It is deadline day. Time is running out for Marylanders to get a mail-in ballot to vote in the General Election on Nov. 3rd.  This year, the Maryland Board of Elections is encouraging voters to request a mail-in ballot, also known as an absentee ballot. In order to vote by mail, you must request a mail-in ballot before the October 20th deadline.
