The Allegany County Health Department will offer FREE tetanus boosters on Friday, May 16 at the following times and locations: Lonaconing: 9 AM – 12 PM Lonaconing Armory, 2 Advocate Court Westernport: 1 PM – 4 PM Old Lutheran Church, corner of Fusner and Front Streets No vaccines except the tetanus booster will be offered at these clinics. Priority will be given to those with cuts sustained during flood evacuation/cleanup.
A clarification to a story heard earlier this week on WCBC Radio: Messiah Christian Academy has not purchased Frankfort Intermediate School in Fort Ashby. WCBC had reported earlier that the Academy had already obtained and would locate at the former school building. WCBC is sorry for any confusion this may have caused.
Governor Wes Moore will be coming to Western Maryland this evening to visit the flood-stricken areas of the county. Plans are for the Governor to meet with officials at the Good Will Fire Company in Lonaconing, take a tour of the damaged areas and also meet with town and county leadership in Westernport. The Governor's office has had staff from the Maryland Department of Emergency Management in the area since the storm assessing damages. Moore has not yet declared a state of emergency for the area.

Allegany County Public Schools has revealed its calendar of graduation events. The center for Career and Technical Education will hold its Certification Ceremony this evening beginning at 6pm at Canal Place. Saturday, May 17th will see graduation events for the area’s three high schools. Mountain Ridge will have a ceremony at 9am at Mountain Ridge Stadium, Allegany High School will begin their graduation at Noon in their gymnasium and Fort Hill High School will start their ceremony at 4pm in Greenway Avenue Stadium.
Clean up of flooded areas in western Allegany County is underway. Utility companies are making checks of gas, water, and electrical power lines while county and state road crews are clearing debris and assessing damage to roads and bridges in the area. Several secondary roads have been washed out. Clean up is also happening along portions of the Great Allegheny Passage where some areas of the trail received significant damage, making parts impassable.
