The city of Frostburg is conducting a search for a fulltime city administrator as Elizabeth Stahlman is leaving the position as of January 31. Effective February 1, Hayden Lindsey will assume the role of Acting City Administrator (in addition to remaining as Director of Public Works) and Lydia Claar will assume the role of Acting Deputy City Administrator (in addition to remaining as the Project Manager for the City). This arrangement will remain in force until a permanent City Administrator is named by the Mayor and City Council.

Almost $70 million dollars went into the State of Maryland’s coffers in tax revenue from the six brick and mortar casinos around the state in December. The six privately owned casinos offer both slot machines and table games. For December, $164.1 million dollars came in to the casinos. Through the first six months of fiscal year 2025, casino revenue is up 1.2% over last year. Rocky Gap Casino in Allegany County generated just under $3.9 million in revenue, down 11.9% compared to December 2023.
West Virginia recorded a $36.7 million surplus in December, the sixth month of Fiscal Year 2025, with total revenue collections surpassing $575.2 million. Year-to-date revenue collections exceeded estimates by $41.7 million, totaling more than $2.6 billion for the first half of the fiscal year. A fire at a two-story duplex in Lonaconing is being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal. Just after 8:30pm Wednesday night, firefighters from the Goodwill Fire Company responded to Church Street to a blaze that displaced two families. Extreme weather temperatures hampered suppression efforts. Preliminary investigation shows the fire started in an upstairs bedroom. Two people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The American Red Cross is assisting the families.
Allegany County Emergency Services is reporting an automobile crash on McMullen Hwy in the area of Maple Lane near Four Sisters Golf Course. Only one lane of traffic is open at this time. The Allegany County Sheriff's Department urges drivers to use caution in the area.
Allegany Street between Washington Street and Fayette Street will be closed between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM on Thursday, 1/9/25, in order to replace a utility pole. Signage will be in place to detour passenger vehicles around the road closure. Traffic is expected to be fully restored after work is completed at 2:00 PM.
