Pennsylvania Chocolate Surplus Finds New Use on Farms

Surplus chocolate candy and other treats are finding a new home on industrial farms. In Pennsylvania, the Hershey Company has been selling its candy waste to meat producer Cargill, which transforms it into feed for cows and other animals. Ocean City Phasing Out Parking Kiosks for 2025

Ocean City is phasing out pay-to-park kiosks in favor of an app called ParkMobile.  Nearly all of the kiosks will be removed before the 2025 summer season.  Ocean City's Transportation Manager Robert Shearman Jr. said that in recent years, more visitors have been paying with their phones. This trend and the cost of replacing older kiosks led to the decision to go digital.  In addition to the app, beach-goers can pay over the phone by calling a number on the ParkMobile signs.

Washington Moves Closer to Return of NFL to City

The Washington Commanders are another step closer to the possibility of returning to the franchise’s old home in the nation’s capital.  A provision to transfer the land that is the site of the old RFK Stadium from the federal government to the District of Columbia is included in Congress’ short-term spending bill, which lawmakers are racing to pass.  It’s a significant victory for the organization and the NFL after controlling owner Josh Harris and Commissioner Roger Goodell lobbied lawmakers on Capitol Hill on the D.C. Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium Campus Revitalization Act earlier this month.

Daniel Monrose Jr, 39 of Cumberland, was arrested on a District Court Bench Warrant for Violation of Probation. Monrose was convicted of Trespass: Private Property and received a 90-day suspended sentence along with 24-months of Supervised Probation. Man Sentenced For Scrap Tire Abandonment

Attorney General Anthony G. Brown today announced the sentencing of Michel Osei, 48, of Hanover, Maryland, on environmental crimes charges related to the illegal dumping and ultimate abandonment of over 250,000 scrap tires at a site in Allegany County, Maryland.  Osei pleaded guilty in October to 17 environmental crimes: one count of unlawful disposal for gain, eight counts of operating a scrap tire facility without a license, and eight counts of improper handling of waste—nuisance.  Osei was sentenced  to 5 years of incarceration, suspending all but 45 days, 5 years of probation, ordered restitution of $250,000 to the Allegany County…

BENCH WARRANTS SERVED & CDS ARREST

On Tuesday, December 17, 2024 at approximately 10:30 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 100 block of Lennox Place for trespassers entering an abandoned building.  Police located Jared Citarelli and Marissa Tice inside the property.  Officers confirmed that both subjects had active bench warrants at which time they were placed under arrest.  A search of Tice’s person revealed that she was in possession of suspected fentanyl. Maryland Delegation Announces Funding For Bay Projects

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen, Ben Cardin along with Congress members from Maryland have announced $398,000 in federal funding to support five state-based projects focused on restoration, education, and volunteerism for the Chesapeake Bay watershed.  The federal awards are provided through the National Park Service’s Chesapeake Bay Gateway Grant Assistance program. Included is $49,000 to the Maryland Humanities Council to develop online resources for groups working to preserve the watershed.

Cemetery Organization Encouraging Membership

For many that visit cemeteries, historic grave markers can provide educational opportunities.
