ARREST WARRANT SERVED

On Thursday, December 12, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Dillon Lowery.  The warrant was issued as the result of an incident that was reported on November 19, 2024.  On this date at approximately 10:59 AM, police responded to a residence in the 500 block of Linden Street for a motor vehicle theft.  The alleged victim reported that Dillon Lowery stole his vehicle the previous night.  After further investigation, police filed for charges against Lowery at the District Court of Allegany County.  Lowery was arrested and transported to Central Booking.  He was later seen by a…

CUMBERLAND CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES SURVEILLANCE TRAILER

In partnership with the Cumberland Police Department and in continuation of their efforts to increase the safety of the City of Cumberland, the Cumberland Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) recently purchased a new surveillance trailer funded by a grant provided by the State’s Department of Housing and Community Development. Coney Christmas Set For Saturday

A day filled with events is in store for the town of Lonaconing’s “Coney Christmas,” happening this Saturday. A Christmas breakfast kicks off the day, starting at 8am at the Goodwill Fire Department Armory.  A parade, scavenger hunt, Santa Claus and a variety of vendors are part of the event.  Jane McAlpine who coordinates the day, tells WCBC Coney Christmas is all about the community… “It means community. Fayette Street Assault Arrest

On Thursday, December 12, 2024 at approximately 5:23 PM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 700 block of Fayette Street for a disturbance.  Police contacted the alleged victim who reported that he had been assaulted by Lindsay Mannis.  Police observed that the victim had sustained injuries.  After further investigation, Mannis was placed under arrest and transported to Central Booking.  She was later seen by a District Court Commissioner and released on her personal recognizance. Budget Shortfall Creates Long-Term Problems

WV Rural Hospitals Receive Grants

A $40 million rural health grant will go to eight hospitals across West Virginia. Governor Jim Justice announced the awards this week in a special ceremony at Boone Memorial Hospital. Justice recalled how important health assistance was to his parents and grandparents who live away from larger hospital centers… “They couldn’t have made it without rural health. There’s no way. There’s so many of us that depend on you, but it’s the same in different areas all across the state. And that’s why we celebrate others that we have checks for here as well that total that $40 million dollars.”

DNR Encourages Tree-Giving For Holidays

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources annual “Gift of Trees” program is available again this holiday season. Marylanders can purchase native trees, singly or a grove of 10 trees, for planting in honor of a celebration, or commemoration. A certificate will be issued and mailed to the buyer within a week or two of an order. All trees will be planted in the next growing season, in locations such as parks, playgrounds, and schoolyards, and along creeks and streams.
