Police Continue Search for Man Missing for Two Years
Cumberland city police and C3I are continuing to investigate the disappearance of 53 year old Ray "Larry" Alesire, Jr. He was first reported missing on March 9, 2023. Aleshire is described as a white male, 5'7", with brown hair and hazel eyes. Anyone with information is urged to call city police at 301-777-1600.
Queen City Drive Littering and CDS arrest
On Monday, March 3rd, 2025, an officer with the Cumberland Police Department observed a male subject in the area of Queen City Dr. throwing garbage on the ground. Officers then made contact with the subject, Javas Chayton Bohrer, 23, of Cumberland MD. During their contact, Bohrer was also found to be in possession of suspected CDS paraphernalia. State Budget Woes Could Increase
The month of March may be coming in like a lion for the Maryland General Assembly. Now half way through their session, the legislature is still grappling with how to overcome a budget deficit. Pennsylvania Budget Proposal Boosts Early Childhood Education Funding
Pennsylvania’s proposed FY26 budget includes a significant boost for child care with funding aimed at addressing staffing shortages. The total budget is $55 million, including funds for recruiting more childcare workers. Pennsylvania Partnerships for Children CEO Kari King says low wages fuel worker shortages, and hopes the proposed funding package will strengthen programs statewide… "It's actually a new appropriation that's being referred to as the 'child care workforce recruitment and retention fund.' The estimate is that about that $55 million would provide just about $1,000 to child care workers that would qualify."
Stolen Handgun and CDS arrest
On Monday, March 3rd, 2025, an officer with the Cumberland Police Department observed a Mitsubishi SUV fail to stop as required in the area of Industrial Blvd and Springdale St. A traffic stop was then initiated and contact was made with the two occupants. During the course of the stop, the operator of the vehicle, Dustin Jacob Coble, 24, of Everett PA, was found to be in possession of a stolen handgun, as well as multiple types of suspected CDS and CDS packaging materials. Bel Air Water Issues Brought To Attorney General
Bel Air residents are investigating all avenues for relief from high water bills they pay through Maryland Water Service. The company provides water for Bel Air, Glen Oaks, and Pinto. Water rates typically run three to four times higher than other parts of Allegany County. Senator Mike McKay met with residents and has sent a letter to the state Attorney General’s office to elevate the investigation of citizen complaints. Library Group Responds to Possible Closures
“Save the Westernport Library” is a group working to save their community library from closure. Headed by Trish Morgan, she tells WCBC that they were told specifically they needed to raise $122,000 even though the branch could still be closed.
