Meritus Health Named To Forbes Best-In-State List
Meritus Health in Hagerstown has been named to the Forbes’ list of America’s Best-In-State Employers. Employers on the list have been identified from an independent survey of over 160,000 employees working for companies that employ at least 500 people. The results were based on employee willingness to recommend their employer to friends and family as well as evaluating other employers in the same industry. This is the second time in three years that Meritus has been recognized.
Cardin Says Soon For Vote on Bridge Funding
Maryland Senator Ben Cardin said he expects a vote on funding for a new Francis Scott Key Bridge in the next month, as lawmakers consider a continuing resolution to keep the federal government operating past September 30th. The cost of new bridge is estimated at $1.9 billion dollars. Cardin said funding for the bridge is tied to funding for other bridge projects around the country. Congress will be back in session after Labor Day with only three weeks to pass the legislation needed.
Corioni Will Play Role of Bad Guy If Needed
The Allegany County Commissioners approved the takeover of the Georges Creek Ambulance Service last Thursday, but it is only further complicating the issues with EMS coverage for the county. The county and the union have not developed any answers over closing the budget deficit that has now forced the layoff of six EMS personnel. Cas Taylor Bridge Should Open Friday
At least one bridge will be back open to traffic in Cumberland come this Friday. The Cas Taylor Memorial Bridge, a-k-a the Baltimore Street Bridge, should be ready for traffic by the end of the week. Greenbrier Resort Off The Auction Block
The Greenbrier Hotel Corporation, owned by West Virginia Governor Jim Justice and his family, has reached an agreement with the credit collection company that was planning a foreclosure sale of the historic resort. Beltway Capital will receive an undisclosed amount to be paid in full by October 24th. Beltway reserves its rights if the Justice family fails to perform. New Frankfort Elementary School Open
After five years of planning, this school year marks the Frankfort West Virginia district’s first year with a new elementary school. Frankfort Elementary is the merger of three separate schools. Arrest Warrant Served
On Sunday, August 25th, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department arrested Shawn Anthony Lancaster, 52, of Cumberland MD. Lancaster was arrested on an active Arrest Warrant issued by the Allegany County District Court for an incident that occurred August 21st. During that incident, it is alleged that Lancaster attempted to break and enter a Frostburg residence. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was released on his own recognizance. Paving on Eastbound Interstate 68
Maryland State Highways is working on pavement resurfacing project on eastbound I-68 between Upper George’s Creek Road and Vale Summit Road in Clarysville. Work should be completed by the first week of November, weather permitting. Crews will work Monday through Friday 7am to 7pm. Keystone Lime Company will use message boards and detour signs to direct motorists through the work zone.
Utility Work On Route 51
Overhead utility work is in progress through the end of the summer on Maryland Route 51 between Brice Hollow Road and the West Virginia State Line. Crews will be hanging fiber on existing poles. Drivers can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures Monday through Friday between 7am and 5pm. Commuters should allow extra driving time. Message boards, signs, barrels and cones will direct motorists through the work areas.
