Allegany Rising Cohort Begins
Leadership Allegany Rising through the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce has begun for the 2024-25 cohort. The participants, all high school juniors, are from Allegany, Bishop Walsh, Calvary Christian Academy, the Center for Career and Technical Education, Fort Hill and Mountain Ridge high schools. Class members will cover topics including healthcare, social services, government, economic development, business, and higher education. The program seeks to build a network of future leaders committed to influencing their community.

Isaac is charged with Attempted-1st Degree Murder, 3 counts of Conspiracy-Murder-1st Degree, Kidnapping, 3 counts of Conspiracy-Kidnapping, 3 counts of Conspiracy-Assault-1st Degree, Armed Robbery, 3 counts: Conspiracy-Armed Robbery, and False Imprisonment. Isaac is being held without bond pending a bail review in District Court. Denny Knippenberg Passes Away
The originator of the Tri-State Concert Series, H. Dennis "Denny" Knippenberg has passed away at the age of 84. Knippenberg spent 17 years hosting the Legends of Rock and Roll series. In his professional career, he was the founder of Knippenberg Insurance Agency in 1970. He also coached little league baseball and Pee Wee football and served as President of the Hot Stove League. He is survived by his wife Patricia and three children: Craig Knippenberg, Kim Iannantuono and husband Scott, and Michelle Mosser and husband Bryan. Adams Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
WV I-79 Closed Between Morgantown and Fairmont
All lanes of Interstate 79 South remain closed near the Goshen Road Exit between Fairmont and Morgantown to repair damage caused by an acid spill. A tractor-trailer carrying a strong acid overturned in a work zone near the Goshen Road Exit at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 18, 2024. No one was injured, but a large amount of acid was spilled on the roadway. I-79 remained closed at the crash site overnight as hazardous material crews cleaned up the acid. McHenry Man Guilty of Animal Cruelty
Philip Schrock of McHenry entered a guilty plea to the charge of Aggravated Animal Cruelty. A pre-sentence investigation is in progress but Schrock could be facing the maximum penalty of three years’ incarceration. Investigators with Garrett County Sheriff received reports that a puppy had been killed in the presence of minor children inside a home. Interviews confirmed that Schrock had grabbed the dog and repeatedly slammed it violently on the ground causing substantial injuries that led to its death.
CRIMINAL SUMMONS SERVED
On Wednesday, September 18, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on John Nicholas. The summons was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on September 15, 2024 at approximately 4:17 PM when officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Bedford Street for an assault in progress. When police arrived, they learned that an assault did occur between parties and that they were disturbing the peace of the neighbors. Nicholas was identified as one of the suspects. ATTEMPTED MURDER ARREST
On Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at approximately 10:51 AM, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the first block of Greene Street for a reported stabbing. Police contacted the victim and observed that he had sustained serious injuries. Officers began administering aid to the victim until the Cumberland Fire Department arrived on scene and transported him the hospital. The victim reported that he had been stabbed by the suspect who was later identified as Jeremiah Martin. Martin was located in the area and detained by officers. After further investigation, Martin was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters. …

Bel Air Pedestrian Bridge Not Fully Funded
Allegany County and the Bel Air community continue to work on solutions to renovate the closed Bel Air Elementary School pedestrian bridge, but the scope of the project and funding needed is holding them back.
