On June 5, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Cumberland Police were notified of a 5-year-old male brought into the emergency room at UPMC, Cumberland, by a parent with a gunshot wound. The Cumberland Police Department, along with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit and Allegany County Child Protective Services, promptly initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings reveal that the child was in the care of his father, Warin Foster, age 31, at their Glen Street residence in Cumberland when the child found an unlocked, loaded handgun and, while playing with it, allegedly shot himself. Maryland state retirees may be in receipt of a letter from the Maryland Public Employee Retiree Chapter of AFSCME, the union that represented them when they were employed by the state.  The letter asks retirees to join the organization and pay dues, saying that it is working to restore lost prescription benefits that end in December of this year.  Senator Mike McKay, who submitted legislation this past session to restore the benefits but failed, says AFSCME knew about the plan being pulled in 2009…   

The Rotary Club of Cumberland is accepting applications from local non-profits and charitable groups for allocation funding.  An organization may receive up to $1,000 within the yearly grant cycle. Requests for funding may be made for any legitimate program, project or activity. Funeral services have been set for Pat O'Rourke, brother of WCBC's Tom O'Rourke. Sheridan Funeral Home of Lancaster, Ohio is taking care of arrangements. VIsitation will be Thursday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30am at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption. O'Rourke died Sunday at the age of 74.

On Tuesday, June 4, 2024, the Cumberland Police Department served an arrest warrant on Glenn Williams.  The warrant was issued as the result of an incident that occurred on June 3, 2024.  On this date at approximately 3:41 PM, police responded to a business in the 100 block of N. Centre Street for a theft.  The officer contacted the staff who reported that the suspect stole property from the store.  The suspect was no longer on scene.  After investigation, the suspect was identified as Glenn Williams.  Police filed for charges against Williams at the District Court of Allegany County.  Williams…

The Capital Wing of the Commemorative Air Force is bringing their Warbird Showcase to the Greater Cumberland Airport. Three different airplanes will be available for public rides along with other aircraft on display June 15 and 16 from 10am to 4pm each day.
