5-Year Old Succumbs to Gunshot Injury
On June 5, 2024, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Cumberland Police were notified of a 5-year-old male brought into the emergency room at UPMC, Cumberland, by a parent with a gunshot wound. The Cumberland Police Department, along with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit and Allegany County Child Protective Services, promptly initiated an investigation. Employee Retiree Chapter of AFSCME Encouraging Membership
Maryland state retirees may be in receipt of a letter from the Maryland Public Employee Retiree Chapter of AFSCME, the union that represented them when they were employed by the state. The letter asks retirees to join the organization and pay dues, saying that it is working to restore lost prescription benefits that end in December of this year. The Rotary Club of Cumberland is accepting applications from local non-profits and charitable groups for allocation funding. An organization may receive up to $1,000 within the yearly grant cycle. Requests for funding may be made for any legitimate program, project or activity. Funeral services have been set for Pat O'Rourke, brother of WCBC's Tom O'Rourke. Sheridan Funeral Home of Lancaster, Ohio is taking care of arrangements. VIsitation will be Thursday from 4-7pm at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10:30am at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption. O'Rourke died Sunday at the age of 74.

Warbirds Visiting Area
The Capital Wing of the Commemorative Air Force is bringing their Warbird Showcase to the Greater Cumberland Airport. Three different airplanes will be available for public rides along with other aircraft on display June 15 and 16 from 10am to 4pm each day. Warbird rides will be available in a Stinson OY-1, A Fairchild UC-61 Forwarder, and a Boeing Stearman. Ride reservations are available at capitalwarbirdrides.org.
