PSC Cuts Proposed Electricity Increase
Potomac Edison customers will not be burdened with the utility’s proposed 43 percent rate hike under a Public Service Commission order this week. The Commission approved a $28 million dollar rate increase rather than the substantially higher requested increase of $50.4 million. According to the Commission’s order, the average residential customer that purchases their kilowatt hours through Potomac Edison and not through a retail supplier and uses 1,000kilowatt hours per month will see a monthly bill increase of just under $5, an increase of 4.9%.
Browning Street water main starts Today
City of Cumberland will be upgrading the water main on Browning Street from Oak Street to Virginia Avenue. NO PARKING signs will be placed in the active work zone during working hours. Parking will be limited throughout the duration of the project. The work involves installing a new main and connecting the existing service lines to it. The work will require us to excavate along the route of the existing water line so that we can install the new one. The city will restore the disturbed grounds to match their original condition, and our city crews will patch all driveways/roadways….
Trespass Arrest
On October 21st, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 700 block of Park Street for a trespassing complaint. Upon officers arrival they contacted Damian Seltzer, who was already trespassed from the property. Seltzer was then issued a Criminal Citation for trespassing and was released pending his trial at District Court. Arrest: Damian Moshe Seltzer, age 45, Cumberland Maryland Charge: Trespassing.
Halloween Plans This Week
The annual South Cumberland Business and Civic Association Marsha L. Thomas Memorial Halloween parade is scheduled for Wednesday, October 25. The parade will begin at 7Pm and Live on WCBC. Follow the same route as in past years as it moves along E. First Street then travels down Virginia Avenue and disbands on West Industrial Boulevard between Kirk Auto Sales and West Third Street. The SCBCA encourages businesses, individuals, clubs, churches to decorate and enter floats in the parade. Candy and handouts will be allowed. Nine Scorers Feature in Women’s Soccer 10-Goal Victory Over Tigers
The Frostburg State Women's Soccer team cruised to a 10-0 win over Salem (WV) on a chilly Saturday evening. FSU struggled to get going on offense in the early stages, as a high Tigers line drew several offside calls. Senior Toni Fiocco-Mizer was able to break the trap on a couple occasions but dragged her shot wide both times. Kentucky Avenue Assault Arrest
On October 21st, 2023 officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 1000 block of Kentucky Avenue for a reported assault. Upon officer’s arrival they spoke with victims, and witnesses of the assault. Through the officer’s investigation they learned that Ammon Miller had assaulted a juvenile, and were able to observe evidence of the assault. Miller was placed under arrest, and awaits his initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner. Arrest: Ammon Leon Miller III, age 56, Cumberland Maryland Charge: Assault Second Degree.
