Update on FSU President
Frostburg State University recently provided an update on campus President Ron Nowaczyk. The president stepped aside from his duties in November for medical reasons. A statement from FSU says that Nowaczyk continues to improve and his medical team has encouraged him to return to university activities and responsibilities on a limited basis. They will continue to monitor his progress for a while before giving him clearance to return to the office full-time. Al Delia, FSU Vice President for Regional Development and Engagement, has been overseeing day-to-day college operations.

UPDATE – National Highway is back open to traffic. A motor vehicle crash has National Highway shut down near the Star-Lite Roller Rink in lower LaVale. One telephone pole damaged with low-hanging lines across the roadway. One vehicle involved. Please avoid the area.
Mount Savage School Fire Alarm
From Allegany County Public Schools: Today, May 22, 2024, students and staff of Mount Savage School were evacuated following an activated fire alarm. Members from the Mount Savage and Wellersburg Fire Departments inspected the building and determined it to be safe. The instructional day has resumed as normal.
VIOLATION OF PROTECTIVE ORDER ARREST
On Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at approximately 12:08 PM, an officer of the Cumberland Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Harrison Street. The operator was identified as Brandon Cobak. A routine check of the driver’s information revealed that Cobak had a Protective Order through the State of Tennessee issued against him. Police discovered that Cobak was currently in violation of the order and that he also had two active extraditable arrest warrants through Tennessee. Del Fest Supporting Local Charities Through Foundation
This is the weekend of the DelFest Music Festival at the Allegany Fairgrounds. In addition to the best of bluegrass music, each year a raffle takes place during the festival with daily drawings and a grand prize chosen on Sunday. Raffle tickets are available at the festival merchandise tent. Proceeds benefit the DelFest Foundation, established in 2010, which gives to a variety of local charities that help the homeless. Possible Tenant for Hunter Douglas Building
Good economic news has been a rarity in recent years locally but the efforts are showing results. Baltimore Street Smoking Ban Considered
Cumberland’s Mayor and City Council are considering an ordinance that would ban smoking on Baltimore Street. With the coming completion of the downtown remodel, ways to keep the area clean and green are front-of-mind. Trone Credited a Win – Federal Aviation Administration Act
