Dr. Monahan Earns Faculty Award at Frostburg State
Dr. Michael L. Monahan, Chair of the Department of Management, was awarded the President's Distinguished Faculty Award. The award was presented by President Dr. Ronald Nowaczyk at the State of the University event last week. Dr. Monahan has a long career in private business, city management, and academia. He serves as the Faculty Athletic Representative for Frostburg State with the Mountain East Conference.

33 year old Male Arrested for Kidnapping and Rape
On Saturday, 09/09/2023, at approximately 1:30 PM, the Frostburg City Police received several calls from independent citizens about a female on East Main Street who was yelling for help. When officers responded they found a 53 year old female who reported that she had been grabbed by an unknown male suspect who forced her to another location, in an attempt to, she believe, sexually assault her. Theft Arrest
On September 9, 2023, Officers of the Cumberland Police Department were dispatched to a local business for a report of shoplifting. Upon arrival Officers made contact with the stores security who advised that a subject was about to steal several items. The stores security advised that the subject has done this on two separate occasions. Officers then observed the subject at the self-checkout register placing items into her bag. Officers watched as the subject exited the business. Officers made contact with the subject and asked if she had a receipt. The subject denied having a receipt for the items. She…

Gov. Justice welcomes home WV Guard Operation Lone Star volunteers
CHARLESTON, WV — Gov. Jim Justice welcomed home soldiers and airmen of the West Virginia National Guard who volunteered to deploy to Texas in support of Operation Lone Star at Joint Forces Headquarters in Charleston. More than 50 members of the WVNG deployed to assist the Texas Military Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and additional law enforcement partners to detect, deter, and interdict transnational criminal activity including human smuggling/trafficking and the flow of illegal narcotics and drugs into the U.S. between official points of entry. Keep Maryland Beautiful Grants Available
Applications are now being accepted for this year’s "Keep Maryland Beautiful” grants program. Administered by the Departments of Natural Resources, Transportation, Agriculture and the Chesapeake Bay Trust, grants are offered to non-profits, volunteer groups, and communities to support education projects, stewardship and protection of natural resources. Last year, 31 grants totaling $92,000 were awarded for projects in 12 counties and Baltimore City. More information is available at dnr.maryland.gov.

The Frostburg State Volleyball team completed their weekend at the Hall of Fame City Tournament, falling to Slippery Rock 3-1, but going on to defeat Roberts Wesleyan 3-1 on Saturday. Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller visited Baltimore Safe Haven, a transitional housing facility in Baltimore that provides services for Maryland’s transgender community.
