Pershing Street Assault, Disorderly Conduct Arrest
On Sunday, September 28, 2025, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to Pershing Street for a disturbance. Officers arrived and observed a large crowd gathered in the street. Police located a male, later identified as Bryce Patton, causing the disturbance. Patton refused to listen to officers’ orders. Officers then observed Patton commit an assault. When officers attempted to arrest Patton, he resisted and pushed an officer. After a brief struggle, officers were able to take Patton into custody. Plans Progressing For Kingspan At Former Hunter Douglas
When Kingspan purchased the former Hunter Douglas building last year, Allegany Economic Development agreed to oversee construction to connect site with the CSX Main Line. County economic development director Jeff Barclay says the rail plans are progressing and Kingspan has a contractor on site, making building modifications for the new roofing and waterproofing production facility… “We as the county are heading up the rail – there’s a rail spur that needs to be built in to the site. We’re at 30% drawings with the contractor, with the engineer. And they’re going to be submitted to CSX for approval.”
Buckel Says DHS Must Do Better
The Maryland Department of Human Services is under scrutiny after a 16-year old girl in the state’s care was found dead in a hotel room in Baltimore. The teen was being housed there through the state’s foster care system. No cause of death has yet been determined. SPARC Research Awarded War Department Contracts
SPARC Research of Warrenton, Virginia who recently opened an office in downtown Cumberland, has been awarded two contracts through the Department of War. In early September, the aerospace firm received a $5 million dollar contract to develop solid rocket motor components. This past week, the company was awarded a $30.4 million dollar contract from the U.S. Air Force to develop and test extended-range solid rocket motors. Production is expected to occur in Warrenton.
Board Of Revenue Estimates Bracing for Fed Effects
September’s meeting of Maryland’s Board of Revenue Estimates showed a very slight – less than one percent – decrease from March numbers. The state is now forecasting $26.7 billion in revenue for fiscal year 2026. The forecast also sees revenue of $27.1 billion for fiscal year 2027. Safe & Snug Donations Start Oct. 1st
The Allegany County Department of Social Services’ annual Safe and Snug program will operate throughout the month of October. This is the 25th year for the event. First United Bank & Trust’s downtown branch will collect new coats, jackets, sweatshirts, gloves, hats and/or scarves to be provided to Allegany County School System children in need of warmth during the winter. In 2024, over 400 new coats were given to children, thanks entirely to community support. Collection containers for new coats are available at the downtown First United Bank & Trust location. CDS Arrest on Valley St.
On Saturday, September 27, 2025, officers of the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 200 block of Valley Street for a suspicious vehicle. Officers contacted the operator who was identified as Harley Lloyd. Police learned that Lloyd had two active bench warrants through the District Court of Maryland for Garrett County. The warrants were issued as the result of Lloyd failing to appear in court on original charges of CDS: Possess-Not Cannabis and CDS: Possess Paraphernalia. Lloyd was arrested and found to be in possession of suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine. He was issued two criminal citations for drug possession and…
Sunday Breakfast at the Cumberland Regional Airport
The Experimental Aircraft Association is having their event this Sunday at the Cumberland Regional Airport, beginning at 8am. There will be vendors, a 50/50 raffle, various aircraft, and classic cars. Money is raised each year to send a student to EAA Air Academy in Osh Kosh, Wisconsin to learn more about aviation. Breakfast is $12 for adults and $6 for children.
