Parks and Rec Advisory Board to Add High School Youth Seat

March 17th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Parks and Recreation Department Advisory Board is seeking to add a local high school youth to its membership. This Board membership seat is open to any local high school age youth, 16 to 18 years of age, with an interest in Community Recreation facilities and programs. The Parks and Recreation Board is a 5-7 member appointed Board, with members chosen from the community at large, and one member serving as a representative of the YMCA. Each board member serves a 3-year term. The Board meets monthly as a group with the mission of fostering planning for recreational activities in the City and continuously reviewing municipal, county, state, and federal cooperation in the field of recreation for the purpose of seeking a greater degree of coordination in the development of recreational activities. Furthermore, the Parks and Recreation Board serves in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and City Council on policy issues involving the City's Parks and Park-related programs. Interested youth should submit a letter of intent explaining briefly why they would like to serve as the youth representative to the Parks and Recreation Board. Letters will be reviewed by current Board members, with a final recommendation made to the Mayor and City Council for approval and appointment to the Recreation Board. Letters should be addressed to City of Cumberland Recreation Advisory Board, 57 N. Liberty Street, Cumberland, MD 21502. The Letter may be dropped off in person at City Hall or emailed to diane.johnson@cumberlandmd.gov. Letters should be received at City Hall by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 23.
