In an effort to continue promoting access to all downtown businesses while allowing the contractor to safely complete downtown construction, the City of Cumberland Engineering Department would like to notify the public of implementation of Phase 2 of the temporary downtown traffic pattern change.
Beginning on Monday, February 12th, South Liberty Street between Pershing Street and Baltimore Street will be closed, as well as Baltimore Street between Liberty Street and Centre Street. Additionally, the streets that were closed in Phase 1 will remain closed (North Centre Street between Baltimore Street and Frederick Street, North Liberty Street between Baltimore Street and Frederick Street). Pedestrian access will still be maintained in these areas.
In an effort to mitigate this closure, vehicular traffic may access downtown via South Centre Street from Pershing Street, as in Phase 1. Traffic will then be directed EAST onto Baltimore Street and then exit onto George Street. Additional short-term parking will also be provided on Baltimore Street near the intersection with Centre Street.
Signage will be in place to notify passenger vehicles about the road closures and new traffic pattern. Please see the attached diagram for additional information on the traffic pattern change.
This closure and temporary traffic pattern will remain in effect until May 3, 2024. Additional information will be released in the event the closure duration is extended or shortened, or if the traffic pattern changes for any reason.
Thank you for your cooperation during this time. Please use caution in the area and follow all traffic control devices that will be in place. If there are any questions, please contact the City of Cumberland Engineering Department, 301-759-6600.
