Police Make Arrest After Destruction of Property Call

On October 31, 2021, officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Oldtown Road for a disturbance.  Upon arrival, officers spoke with the complainant and learned that Jeffery Scott Ritchie of Cumberland, MD had been served with a Final Protective Order and was not to be at the residence nor to have contact with complainant.  It was also learned that while Ritchie was at the residence, he had done substantial damage to the complainant’s vehicle.  Ritchie had fled the scene prior to the arrival of police. Officers confirmed that Ritchie had been served with the Final Protective Order and advised the complainant to contact police if Ritchie returned.  A short time later, Ritchie returned to the residence and again began causing problems. Officers arrived on scene and observed Ritchie attempt to flee the area on foot.  Contact was made with Ritchie a short distance away from the residence and he was advised that he was under arrest for violating the Protective Order as well as causing damage to the complainant’s vehicle.  Ritchie began to resist arrest as officers attempted to take him into custody.  After a brief struggle, Ritchie was taken into custody and transported to the Cumberland Police Department for processing.  Ritchie was taken to the District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center, held without bond.
