City Police make Assault, DUI arrests

August 8th, 2022 by WCBC Radio

Just before midnight, officers from the Cumberland City Police were conducting a traffic stop in the area of Greene and Baltimore St when they observed a Chevy Truck spin its wheels and approach them at a high rate of speed. The operator of the truck shouted to officers and asked if they could pass by, telling officers they had been shot at just a block prior to that location. Officers immediately checked the area and could find no problems or other witnesses. When officers on scene attempted to speak with the operator of the truck in more detail, they detected the odor of alcohol emanating from inside. The driver then became uncooperative and refused to exit the vehicle. Officers were eventually able to get the operator, Steven Jefferson Battle, 33, of Cumberland, out of the vehicle. As a result, Battle was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and hindering. He was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance where he was released on his own recognizance.
