The Queen City Creamery will go on. Opened by Rick and Terry Michels in 2002, the Creamery has become a major part of Downtown Cumberland. Tourists seek out the business for the best ice cream around as well as great sandwiches and other bakery items. Rick passed away in 2012, but Terry chose to continue the business. She had decided to close the business recently because she would like to retire and had not found a buyer. The business was to close at the end of October.
Rhiannon Brown-Morgret heard of the closing and wanted to buy the business. A friend of Chelsea Boyle, daughter of Bill and Linda Freas, Ms. Brown-Morgret approached Ms. Boyle about the business. They along with the Freas have stepped up to purchase the Creamery. The Freas family are solid business people in the community and are principals of Flagship Rehabiliation Services and CareVenture, owners of multiple rehabilitation companies throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and the District of Columbia including Rehab 1st and Allegany County Nursing and Rehabiliation in Cumberland and Frostburg. Ms. Brown-Morgret is currently teaching at Frostburg State Unversity and is committed to working to continue the Queen City Creamery tradition in Cumberland.

The Creamery will close on October 31st but there is a planned reopening after the first of the year.

The Queen City Creamery will continue to be part of the Downtown Cumberland business community.
A group involving some of the principals of CareVentures and Rhiannon Morgret has stepped up to purchase the Creamery, which was slated to go out of business at the end of this month.
Current owner Terry Michels could not be happier, and the new ownership has been customers for several years. The name and basic concept will continue, and the new ownership said it would be adding some bakery items to the menu.
Morgret will manage the business, which will still close on October 30th, but will reopen with the same name after the first of the year.
