Friday officially marked the beginning of a redesigned and renovated downtown Cumberland Mall as a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the McCoury Stage at the corner of Baltimore and Liberty streets. The $15 million “Reimagine Cumberland” project includes high-capacity fiber optics, replacement of underground utilities, and the return of slow-moving automobile and bicycle traffic to replace Baltimore Street’s current pedestrian mall- and construction is slated to take 18 months.
