Local resident Dana Tinnen recently approached the Cumberland City Council about the search for a new police chief. Tinnen says this is an opportunity to diversify the force and when choosing someone, a minority candidate should be a focus…
“I think this would go a long way in building our police force and diversifying it. When you see a Black face, an Asian face, or a Latino face, those kids and those youth will have someone to look at, role models. And it could possibly change the face of our police force to diversify it.”
Mayor Ray Morriss said the choice for Chief needs to be the best fit for the city…
“We’ll look at every application, regardless of race, and take a good look at it. But what our decision will be based on is experience and quite frankly the merit – who’s the most qualified person that we can get to be our next chief of police.”
