Snow Emergency Plan in Effect in Washington County

The Maryland State Police Hagerstown Barrack has placed the Snow Emergency Plan in effect for Washington County on Interstate Highways, Clear Spring and west due to an unexpected snowstorm. Snow and ice have been reported on the roadways. We are currently working numerous minor accidents and vehicles that have slid off the roadway. Motorists are encouraged to stay off Interstate 70 west of Clear Spring unless an emergency. State Highway Administration has equipment en route to the location to treat the roadways. Delays should be expected if traveling in that area. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution if traveling through that area. Additional information is forthcoming pending roadway conditions.

The Snow Emergency Plan for Washington County will be in effect at 0700 hours due to the sleet and freezing rain accumulations on the county roads, and some major State routes. The Maryland State Highway Administration along with the County Roads Department have been treating the roadways of the County throughout the night, however, there are some icy spots and the motoring public is urged to use caution in traveling this morning. Temperatures are expected to rise according to weather reports after sunrise and the conditions are expected to improve.
