A briefing from Maryland’s Spending Affordability Committee on Wednesday shows the state heading toward an even bigger deficit than estimated earlier this year. At the close of the last General Assembly in April, the state showed a structural deficit of $300 million dollars. That number has now ballooned to $1.4 billion dollars. House Minority Leader Jason Buckel said the report shows there is no new surplus and never was – that the increased taxes and fees Marylanders are paying just went for more government workers and more government spending.
