WBAL repotrs the Maryland State Board of Education on Tuesday unanimously endorsed the state superintendent's plan to have students take standardized tests from home this spring. Superintendent Karen Salmon recommended that only math and English language arts assessments be given to third through eighth graders and those in high school. Under the state school board's vote, the normal testing time has been reduced by two-thirds.
Salmon acknowledged the challenges during this time with remote learning and those returning to classrooms, but she says the state is required by the federal government to provide data from the tests.
