Three Locals Among Governor’s “Green Bag” Appointments

February 20th, 2021 by WCBC Radio

Governor Larry Hogan has submitted 154 appointments to the Maryland State Senate. Secretary of Appointments Chris Cavey virtually presented Senate President Bill Ferguson with the names of the “Green Bag” nominees, including three from Allegany County. James Pyles has been appointed to the Allegany College of Maryland Board of Trustees; Stu Czapski to the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority; and Eugene Silverman to the Economic Development Commission. Gary Ruddell of Garrett County was also appointed to the Economic Development Commission. Dating back to 17th-century England, the term “Green Bag” refers to the green satchel that is used once every year to bring the gubernatorial nominations to the Senate. It is a longstanding tradition for a member of the governor’s staff to deliver the bag once a year to the Maryland State Senate.
