Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest

On August 27, 2014 a deputy with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop on McMullen Highway in the Cresaptown, Maryland area. During the course of the traffic stop the deputy contacted the operator of a 2005 KIA who was identified as Charles Trent Thomas of LaVale, Maryland. A check through MVA revealed Mr. Thomas was operating the vehicle on a suspended Maryland driver's privilege. Mr. Thomas was arrested and charged with two counts of driving on suspended license. He was taken before a District Court Commissioner and released on his personal recognizance.

On Friday  Cumberland City Police officers conducted a traffic stop on Franklin Street in Cumberland for a registration violation.  Upon contacting the operator who was identified as Jordan Alexander Garlitz, 18 of Cumberland, officers learned that Garlitz was operating an uninsured vehicle with invalid registration.  After further investigation, officers also found that Garlitz was in violation of a Florida court order by being in contact with a passenger in the vehicle.  As a result of this investigation, Garlitz was placed under arrest and transported to Cumberland Police Headquarters where he was charged with the following:

Displaying expired registration plates – 1 count

Driving Uninsured vehicle – 1 count

Violation of Ex-Parte Order – 1 count

Garlitz was processed and transported to the Allegany County District Court for a bond hearing.  Garlitz was released on his personal recognizance pending trial.
