Tri-State Zoo Dealt Blow in Court of Appeals

Another legal blow for Bob Candy, owner of Tri-State Zoological Park, handed out last week as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit affirmed a sanctions order against the zoo;  Candy;  and his legal counsel Nevin Young.  PETA, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, was awarded more than $56,000 after the U.S. District Court found that the defendant,  Candy, with assistance from Young, had attempted to intimidate witnesses just days before the group’s “Endangered Species Act Lawsuit”. It is just the latest in a decade long battle between the local zoo owner and the animal rights group with PETA openly acknowledging that the end goal in the matter is to have every animal taken from the zoo and transported to other facilities, essentially shutting it down completely. For his part, Candy has maintained from day one that all of the animals in his care are well taken care of and are not in danger. He  has spoken out publicly on the legal challenges on several occasions- making no attempt to mask his distain for the group…
