The Cumberland Times News reports an 18-year-old LaVale man is facing criminal drunken driving and other charges after he passed a vehicle in a no-passing zone early Friday on National Highway near Clarysville and collided with a LaVale woman’s vehicle traveling in the opposite direction, according to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.

Trantin Hendrickson, the at-fault driver, and Virginia Lattea, 51, were both taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The head-on crash occurred at 4:47 a.m., when Hendrickson was driving a 1995 Lexus and attempted to pass a vehicle at a high rate of speed in a non-passing zone as he was traveling eastbound on National Highway.

The Hendrickson vehicle, which police later determined to be stolen, crossed the highway and struck a 2007 Kia operated by Lattea.

Both vehicles were destroyed upon impact.

The investigation is continuing with charges pending. Police said alcohol factored in the collision.

Frostburg and Cresaptown ambulances and Clarysville and Frostburg volunteer fire departments responded, according to the Allegany County 911 center.
