US 40 Resurfacing to Begin Tuesday

March 23rd, 2022 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will begin work Tuesday, March 29, on a safety and resurfacing project on US 40 Alternate (Old National Pike) in Washington County. Crews will work weekdays, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on the section of the roadway between MD 68 (Lappans Road) and MD 67 (Rohrersville Road), as well as a section of MD 34 (Potomac Street) from King Road back to US 40 Alternate.  Weather permitting, the project is expected to be complete in early May.

During work hours, crews will use a flagging operation in both directions of US 40A (Old National Pike) to safely guide motorists through the work zone. There will be cones and barrels to alert motorists to the construction. MDOT SHA contractor C. William Hetzer Inc., of Hagerstown, will perform the work.

As part of the project, crews will patch, grind, resurface and install new pavement markings on US 40A (Old National Pike). This resurfacing work is necessary to provide a safe and durable riding surface and extend the life of the roadway.

MDOT SHA works hard to maintain safe traffic mobility in work zones for our crews as well as our customers. Drivers need to stay alert, focus on driving, and look for reduced speed limits, as well as other driving pattern changes. Drive like you work here and slow down in construction zones. Motorists in need may dial #77 on their mobile device for roadside assistance.
