Vehicle stop leads to drug arrest

On Friday  at 2:50 pm, officers on patrol in the area of Baltimore Avenue observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.  Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and contacted the operator Devon Hazelton, age 20 of Cumberland, Maryland. Upon contacting Hazelton, officers detected the odor of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) emanating from the vehicle.  A probable cause search was conducted and officers located an amount of CDS packaged for distribution.  Subsequently, Hazelton was arrested and charged with CDS possession of Marijuana over 10 grams, and CDS possession with intent to distribute.  Hazelton was later taken to District Court for his Initial Appearance and released on a $5000 unsecured bond.

On Friday morning,  an officer stopped a vehicle on Virginia Avenue for not displaying a license plate on the front of the vehicle.  The officer after contacting the operator of the vehicle requested a K9 scan of the exterior of the vehicle.  A K9 unit arrived and a scan was conducted showing a positive alert.  A search was conducted based on the alert.  Brandon Michael Holliday and Gary MacGleen Spencer Jr. were taken into custody after officers located a pill container with several baggies of heroin located next to both subjects.  Both subjects were transported to Cumberland Police Headquarters for processing and to await a hearing in District Court.  Spencer was released at his bond hearing pending trial in District Court.  Holliday was held on $4,000.00 bond.
