August 9th, 2022 by WCBC Radio

On, Tuesday Robert Frederick Sauvage, 62, of Arlington, VA was arrested for impersonating a police officer in Cumberland, MD. The arrest occurred after a deputy with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office, operating an unmarked patrol vehicle observed Sauvage's vehicle operating flashing emergency lights as it traveled on I68 westbound. Sauvage was traveling directly in front of a Cumberland Fire Department ambulance which also had its emergency equipment activated. The deputy noticing that the vehicle was registered in the State of VA conducted a check which revealed that the vehicle was owned by Sauvage and not an official emergency service.

Upon contact with Sauvage, he advised that he was a volunteer police officer with a Virginia agency. Contact was made with that agency who confirmed that Sauvage was NOT an employee or volunteer with them. At that time he was placed under arrest and transported to the Allegany County Detention Center pending a bond review.

A search of Sauvage's vehicle revealed it to be equipped with red, and blue emergency lights as well as a fully functional siren system.
