While funding packages are nearly finalized and timelines have been developed for the Cumberland and Fayette street bridge replacements- the city’s other West Side bridge roject remains very much in limbo. The Washington Street Bridge is a far more complicated replacement because of both design parameters and historical requirements. In an effort to find a solution, Allegany County Attorney Lee Beeman, at the request of the County Commissioners, filed an official complaint against CSX with the National Surface Transportation Board in April of 2021. County and city officials are still awaiting a date for the case to be heard. With Congressman David Trone in town last week to present a check for the Fayette Street project, he was asked for a Washington Street Bridge update. Sonny Holding, Trone’s deputy chief of staff and district director, said bringing that project to fruition will be tremendously challenging…
For his part, Congressman Trone said he will continue to fight to secure federal infrastructure dollars for transportation projects in the district…
