The Washington Street Library will be open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, September 13th to participate in Cumberland’s Heritage Day festivities. Ashley Swinford, Allegany County Library System’s Marketing Director, says in addition to hosting the Savage Mountain Punk Arts Group, the City’s local Civil War Round Table will share historic details about the library’s location…
“Before it was a public library, this building was the first Allegany Academy, and then during the Civil War it was used as a hospital. So, that’s what they’re going to focus on—is that Civil War Hospital. They’re going to give kind of a firsthand look at some of the medical practices that would happen around that time.”
