With Medicare’s annual open enrollment underway, consumer advocates are cautioning Maryland seniors to be alert for scams targeting people making health care coverage decisions. Scammers may call to offer information that makes them appear legitimate, pressuring people to share policy numbers or other personal information. Karen Morgan with AARP Maryland says any official communication from Medicare will come in the mail…
“Medicare will never reach out to you to say, ‘Gee, I know you might be worried about fraud. Here’s some things you can do.’ That’s not how Medicare works. So, anybody doing that – just assume is a criminal and is just trying to scam you.”
