Weber St attempted warrant service

April 24th, 2023 by WCBC Radio

On Sunday, April 23rd, 2023, The Cumberland City Police responded to a Weber St residence for attempted warrant service on Starasia Leslie Smith, 20, of Cumberland MD. Smith was wanted on an active warrant for multiple incidents that occurred on April 22nd. During those incidents, it is alleged that Smith made thirty emergency 911 calls in a 24 hour period. Each time a 911 call was placed, it was subsequently answered by a dispatcher with the Emergency Office of Communications. Upon the answer of each call, the caller immediately hung up the phone without relaying any information to dispatchers. Officers responded to the residence multiple times and contacted Smith who refused to speak to officers or identify herself. As a result, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

On today’s date, when officers attempted to serve the warrant, Smith once again refused to comply with officers refusing to exit the residence. She then actively resisted arrest, attempting to pull away from and escape the officers. She was taken before the District Court Commissioner for her Initial Appearance where she was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. She is currently being held on $1000 bond.
