Today, Thursday, September 7, 2023, at West Side Elementary School, students and staff were evacuated after a report of smoke in the building. The Cumberland Fire Department responded to the school and determined the cause of the smoke was a result of an overheated dishwasher. They gave the all clear for everyone to return to the building, and the instructional day has resumed as normal.
