West Virginia State Treasurer Riley Moore announced that the state’s SMART529 college savings plan has ranked as the top direct-sold 529 plan in the country. The website Savingforcollege.com ranked West Virginia’s plan first in the nation in 5- and 10-year performance during the second quarter of 2023. The website analyzed performance of more than three thousand 529 investment options nationwide. Saving For College noted the SMART529 WV Direct plan offers “outstanding flexibility, attractive investments and generous state tax incentives.” West Virginians are able to sign up for the plan directly without going through a financial adviser.
