Greenway Fundraiser Honors Manges

This past weekend, Greenway Avenue Stadium got some love from the community with its annual “Walk For Ol’ Greenway” fundraiser.  Raising money for improvements to the stadium, originally built in 1937, brought out the local community according to Ed Mullaney…

“Ah, it was a sea of red. A sea of red, lots of red jerseys, lots of sports teams, particularly from Fort Hill up there donating money to improve that stadium more and more.”

Mullaney said no one did more to raise funds than the late Mark Manges, a high school and college football standout . A large plaque was dedicated to his memory at the walk…

“When he came back home, he got this program going to renovate the stadium. Now, it’s got an 8-lane track, new visitor bleachers, new grandstand, new turf, new state-of-the-art lighting. Nobody does it alone, but he was such a strong leader.”
