AAA Predicts Boost in Labor Day Travel

August 22nd, 2013 by WCBC Radio

The Labor Day holiday is quickly approaching, and AAA Travel projects more drivers will hit the road at the end of this month. AAA projects more than 34 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more during the upcoming labor holiday weekend – that's a 4.2 percent increase compared to last year's holiday. Ragina Averella, Public and Government Affairs Manager for AAA Mid-Atlantic says its the last official holiday of the summer and the last heavy travel period until Thanksgiving. AAA officials say increased consumer spending and the improving housing market are factors for the projected boost. During that holiday weekend, about 85 percent of holiday travelers will travel by car.
