Black Bear Numbers Increase in Maryland

A study conducted by the Maryland Wildlife and Heritage Service reports there are 701 black bears living in Garrett and Allegany Counties in 2011. Reported in the Cumberland Time-News, there is now 64.5 bears per 100 square miles, whereas in 2005 the figure was around 39.3 bears. The study costs $80,000 in addition to manpower.
