City Police Captain Comments on Crime in Cumberland

Although a scan of the daily headlines might have you thinking that crime in Cumberland is on the rise dramatically and getting out of control- Captain Greg Leake with the Cumberland Police Department says that isn’t necessarily the case. Addressing the Cumberland Rotary Club on Tuesday, Leake said that the primary concern isn’t with the number of crimes, its with the nature of the crimes. He says compared to just a few years ago, incidents of violence have risen substantially and without question the common factor in a majority of these incidents is drugs. He pointed to a recent stabbing victim found in Flintstone as an example of the growing drug wars:
