Maryland Launching Campaign To Prevent Child Identity Theft

October 21st, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Maryland is launching a campaign to help prevent child identity theft.  Attorney General Brian Frosh joined Maryland hospital representatives on Tuesday in making the announcement in Baltimore. They were joined by the state chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and state Delegate Craig Zucker.  Zucker, a Montgomery County Democrat, sponsored legislation in 2012 to help prevent child identity theft. It resulted in a law that allows parents to take the step of freezing their child's credit at any time. The problem of identity theft is compounded for children. That's because they usually don't become aware they are victims until they are older, when they apply for a credit card or a loan to buy a car. The purpose of the campaign is to let parents know what steps they can take to see that their children do not become victims of identity theft…
