With the 2013 session of the Maryland General Assembly underway, Governor Martin O’Malley is hinting that he will push for a tax hike- be it at the pump or on state sales taxes- to generate much needed transportation revenue. The governor introduced that plan last year and was roundly criticized by Republicans. House Minority Leader Tony Odonnell and other Republicans want the state to stop using money from the gas tax to pay for mass transit projects which don't benefit the rural districts many of them represent.
