School Security Improvements

Many of the recommendations being made to improve school safety and security in Maryland have centered around having either armed personnel, or law enforcement officers in the schools every day. The governor’s budget contains some funding for capital security improvements and upgrades- but actually having officers available in the schools routinely is a matter to be worked out between local boards of education and law enforcement. Allegany County Superintendent of Schools Dr David Cox said at this point there are just a handful of police officers available to the system- but given the strong working relationship between the board and local law enforcement, talks could lead to expanding the program…
