Stabilization Work To Begin On Footer Dye Works

Stabilization work is scheduled to begin on the Footer Dye Works building on Monday (today), weather permitting.  An inspection of the roof was done in September, which resulted in Canal Place addressing repairs to the building that need to take place in order to stop water leaks and to secure entry to the building.   Phase 2 of the stabilization will consist of roof repair, removal of the scaffolding and mortar repair.  Funding for this project is coming from the state of Maryland’s Community Legacy Program and the Maryland Historical Trust.  Contracts have been awarded to Durable Slate Company who are professional contractors that specialize in historic preservation.  The idea of investing any time or money into the aging structure as opposed to demolishing it has been a point of debate in recent years.
