State School Board To Decide How To Make Up Snow Days

March 19th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland State School Board will be meeting next week to come up with a plan for waivers for public schools and how school systems can adjust their calendars to make up the days missed for bad weather. Bill Reinhard with the Maryland Department of Education says that  it is not officially collecting waiver requests from county school systems but several have already sent in letters or have made contact regarding waivers- including Allegany County which voted last week to seek a five-day waiver.  Counting this past Monday, Allegany County schools have been closed 16 days this winter as a result of inclement weather. Reinhard said the plan is for each individual school system to come up with plan to best make up for the lost instruction time, but adds that the state is sympathetic to the challenge faced by some systems such as Allegany and Garrett counties…
