$100,000 Powerball Ticket Sold in Ridgeley

March 29th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

A Powerball lottery ticket worth $100,000 was sold Wednesday at Desperado's Bar and Grill in Ridgeley.

The Cumberland Times News reports that West Virginia Lottery public relations director Randy Burnside said an unknown person purchased one ticket and matched four white ball numbers and the Powerball number. The buyer of the winning ticket also paid an extra dollar for the randomly-selected multiplier, which was two in last night's drawing.

"So this person purchased one ticket that was worth $50,000, but with the multiplier it is worth $100,000. We love to sell winning tickets," Burnside said.

The jackpot for Wednesday night's drawing was $40 million.

Joe Hagenbuch, one of the owners of the Potomac Street business and the adjoining Hage’s Market, said he was contacted by the state lottery agency informing him of the winning ticket.

Businesses that sell winning tickets reportedly receive 1 percent of the winning total as commission for the sale.

Burnside urged the holder of the winning ticket to immediately sign the back of the ticket, place it in a safe place and contact the West Virginia Lottery for claim information.
