Bad Weather Headed Downstate

January 8th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

We are not alone in fighting winter driving conditions.

The Maryland State Highway Administration is preparing for an afternoon winter storm which may create major icing on roads and bridges throughout Maryland. Temperatures in the State have been frigid for the past two weeks, causing pavement temperatures to stay below freezing.

Motorists should remain cautious of potentially slick road surfaces and use safe speed.

“We work very hard to position our resources on the road ahead of time in the areas impacted most by any winter weather event,” said MDOT SHA Administrator Greg Slater.  “Our crews will remain vigilant and patrol for any icy sections as afternoon and overnight temperatures drop below freezing.”

Motorists are advised to be careful on bridges, ramps and overpasses as these elevated sections of road freeze first. Drivers are encouraged to pay close attention to weather forecasts and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
