ACITs Open Thursday

The Alhambra Catholic Invitational Tournament opens on Thursday, but the teams, coaches and many of the fans arrive in the area tonight. Organized by Wamba Caravan No. 89, International Order of the Alhambra, the tournament is traditionally held on the third weekend of March, making use of the Cumberland Ramada Inn as it's center of operations, and Frostburg State University's Bobcat Arena in as it's game venue. Since its beginning in 1961, the A.C.I.T. has been host to 84 teams from 10 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada. Many of the players and coaches that have participated in the tournament have gone on to find success in College and the NBA.  Joe Carter, Fort Hill Principal, once again is heading up the tournament and he says that in addition to bringing some of the best young basketball players in the country to the area- the event provides a major shot in the arm for the local economy…
