America’s 911 Ride making a comeback in Cumberland

July 7th, 2018 by WCBC Radio

America's 911 Ride has been given a new lease on life and will be coming through Cumberland once more on Aug. 17. The Cumberland Times News reports Harlan Smith, the organization's local contact, said she doesn't know what inspired it to "come back this year as never before."

So far, the riders of nearly 500 motorcycles have been registered.

This will be the 17th ride. It was started to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and their victims, raise funds for a scholarship program dedicated to the children of EMS personnel, firefighters and police officers and to help emergency services organizations with funds, materials, equipment and volunteers.

It is planned for the riders to leave Somerset, Pennsylvania, at 6:30 a.m. and pass through Cumberland when they get here — sometime around 8 a.m. They will proceed to Rocky Gap State Park to refresh themselves and then continue on their journey.
